What site remediation involves
We provide site remediation, clean-out management and consulting services once contamination has been verified.
Environmental site remediation and clean-out is required if soil or groundwater contamination is verified at a property — most often following a Phase 2 ESA, or as a result of an incident such as an underground storage tank leak.
The clean-out is undertaken to bring the affected section of the site to an acceptable level, in compliance with the applicable standard. That standard is not fixed — it varies from site to site depending on zoning and the intended use of the land.
The physical work itself is carried out by a qualified contractor, retained by the property owner. Our role covers inspections, oversight of the remediation work, sampling and verification during the clean-out process, documentation, and preparing the final Environmental Site Remediation report.
That report is often the foundation for a subsequent Record of Site Condition filing, where the property's use is changing to something more sensitive.

Five stages, from establishing the extent of the problem to confirming it has been resolved.
Common questions
Site Remediation Questions
When is site remediation required?
If soil or groundwater contamination is verified at a property — most often following a Phase 2 ESA, or as a result of an incident such as an underground storage tank leak.
What standard does the remediation need to meet?
A level appropriate to the site's zoning and intended use. Standards vary from site to site, and confirming the applicable one is an early step in the process, not an afterthought.
Who carries out the physical clean-up work?
A qualified contractor retained by the property owner. Our role is inspection, oversight of the remediation work, sampling and verification during the process, and preparing the final report.
How is the extent of contamination determined?
The first stage of the process establishes the depth and lateral extent of the contamination, which then shapes the scope of the remediation itself.
What happens after remediation is complete?
Verification sampling confirms the site meets the applicable standard, and the results are documented in an Environmental Site Remediation report — often the basis for a subsequent Record of Site Condition filing.
